Planning a Summer Wedding

Wedding ceremony on the Winthrop Estate Lawn, early summer

We are thinking about the upcoming summer weddings as the snow is melting and flowers are beginning to emerge. Some couples are making their final menu choices, signing off on the floral designs, getting their welcome gift items, and drafting their programs, etc. I like to focus the planning of the wedding on what type of environment and experience the couple wants to create for their friends and family. Though there are many decisions to make and people to seat, the couple will remember the time with their friends and their families, not what color their napkins were. Still, most of the design and details they put time and money into do show up in their pictures or videos or keepsakes, but we focus on creating an ideal environment for the guests to celebrate this couple and for all to enjoy, with a beautiful backdrop for their wedding memories. Weddings are very special occasions, and we are looking forward to this summer and the celebrations at the Winthrop Estate! photo by Scott Barrow.

Our New Monogram

This is our new Monogram. W.E. for the Winthrop Estate. This was designed by Pier Gustafson, a very talented calligrapher. It is to reflect the romance, elegance and beauty of the estate.

New Driveway

Our new driveway finally got completed this month. It sure makes driving in very impressive Especially for a 150 person wedding!

Wedding Ceremony on the Lawn

This couple had their ceremony for about 90 guests on the lawn; rose petals were strewn on the isle; and here you can see the cocktail hour beginning. The chairs was facing South East, with a variety of lush trees behind the couple as they stood in front of their guests.

The Winthrop Estate sure is perfect for that special wedding!

Beauty’s in the Details

I took someone on a tour of the estate recently for their second time (they will be getting married here and we met to discuss the details of their wedding weekend plan) and they were impressed by all the details they didn’t notice on their first time through- the marble carved fireplace, the wide plank floor boards, the silk tassles on the curtains, and the dining room chandelier.

After the wedding… Magical Bliss

I think this is the moment: you may kiss the bride. But where is the officiant? Maybe they just took another opportunity to kiss after the ceremony. Was this just for the camera? I don’t know. I just know that I love this picture because you can tell from their body language it’s after all the stress is gone– they are in the magic, relaxed and happy.

This is the magic in a wedding at the Winthrop Estate- a gorgeous lawn, a lovely day, all dressed up, in love, and ready to party.

Found this picture from a while ago… The wedding cake was so delicious! I watched her create it in the back room. Usually they get delivered in one piece, but this one was assembled! What a production. And, oh! what a rich, seductive flavor!

Spring is finally at the Winthrop Estate!

It seemed like it would be winter forever here in the Berkshires! However, I just turned around and the violets and daffodils are popping up, opening to the warm spring sun. I met with our landscape designer last week and our gardener this week and after my walk on the wooded trails (to the west of the mansion), I have come to the conclusion that the Berkshires can capture the best of spring. . (Pardon my giddy excitement, it is the first real day of spring today after all!)

The flowers beds are about to bloom, wedding season is beginning, and I’m meeting a couple this weekend to plan their wedding at the Winthrop Estate…. Ah spring!
