I made a short video (37 seconds) on YouTube, as when I showed this one (inserted into this post above) to my friends, their attention wandered about half way through, and this one is only 2 minutes! Though the short impression works for YouTube and TV (and apparently my friends), at the Winthrop Estate, the pace of life does seem to slow down a bit, and time sometimes seems to expand, especially on special occasions and vacation, and this video shows a lightness of spirit, a bit of fun and lets you pause a minute (or two) to imagine… a weekend in the country.

Friends Coming Together

The Groom Relaxing

Our ping pong table is on the third floor of the mansion, in the game room, a perfect space for just kicking back and relaxing with a drink. Here the groom watches his friends play after the rehearsal dinner BBQ on the Winthrop Estate lawn. Other guests are hanging out on the club chairs watching, and others are in the library or music room. Sometimes it’s nice to be all together in a big group at a wedding, and sometimes guests like to have time with smaller groups of friends. On a wedding weekend at the Winthrop Estate, we often see friends enjoying each other’s company in small groups throughout the weekend, in the game room, verandah, lawn, music room, even in the second floor foyer they catch a good conversation.

A gracious couple (parents of the bride) recently sent us a thank-you note sharing their warm sentiments in regard to a wedding hosted at the Winthrop Estate. A big think you goes from me to my staff for helping me make this wonderful experience for our guests!

Hi Jamie,
As I write this email, I am not sure where to start….so here goes:
You and your remarkable staff at Winthrop made this past weekend the most magical and beautiful weekend imaginable. I am not sure how you were able to transform the place so many ways without us seeing any of it being done, but somehow you managed. I never saw anyone upstairs, yet the rooms were cleaned and freshened each day, the event rooms were turned over without me ever seeing them empty. Every single one of the people with whom we had contact this past weekend was absolutely super kind and helpful and always had a smile. At times of high stress that makes a huge difference. The estate was absolutely magnificent in all its incarnations and all who stayed with us had a super fantastic time. You were wonderful with everyone and somehow (I wish I could do this) always had a smile on your face! We loved that! It was really nice for your husband to stop in at the end of each evening. My son, husband and Carl enjoyed speaking with him. We are indebted to you guys for loaning us the most spectacular place in Berkshire county!
Thanks for an absolutely MAGNIFICENT weekend!

Planning a Summer Wedding

Wedding ceremony on the Winthrop Estate Lawn, early summer

We are thinking about the upcoming summer weddings as the snow is melting and flowers are beginning to emerge. Some couples are making their final menu choices, signing off on the floral designs, getting their welcome gift items, and drafting their programs, etc. I like to focus the planning of the wedding on what type of environment and experience the couple wants to create for their friends and family. Though there are many decisions to make and people to seat, the couple will remember the time with their friends and their families, not what color their napkins were. Still, most of the design and details they put time and money into do show up in their pictures or videos or keepsakes, but we focus on creating an ideal environment for the guests to celebrate this couple and for all to enjoy, with a beautiful backdrop for their wedding memories. Weddings are very special occasions, and we are looking forward to this summer and the celebrations at the Winthrop Estate! photo by Scott Barrow.

Our New Monogram

This is our new Monogram. W.E. for the Winthrop Estate. This was designed by Pier Gustafson, a very talented calligrapher. It is to reflect the romance, elegance and beauty of the estate.

New Driveway

Our new driveway finally got completed this month. It sure makes driving in very impressive Especially for a 150 person wedding!

Wedding Ceremony on the Lawn

This couple had their ceremony for about 90 guests on the lawn; rose petals were strewn on the isle; and here you can see the cocktail hour beginning. The chairs was facing South East, with a variety of lush trees behind the couple as they stood in front of their guests.

The Winthrop Estate sure is perfect for that special wedding!

Beauty’s in the Details

I took someone on a tour of the estate recently for their second time (they will be getting married here and we met to discuss the details of their wedding weekend plan) and they were impressed by all the details they didn’t notice on their first time through- the marble carved fireplace, the wide plank floor boards, the silk tassles on the curtains, and the dining room chandelier.
